| Crews battle house fire on Buck Mtn Rd |
Sun. Feb 21st 2010
At approx. 1130am EVFC units were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1500 Buck Mt road. Engine 41 responded with a crew of five and Tanker 49 responded with a crew of one.. While enroute Engine 41 was advised that all occupants had exited the home safely and that the fire appeared to be coming from the kitchen area. Upon arrival Engine 41 had heavy smoke and fire from the front of the house. Engine 41's crew passed command to the next in engine and went into attack mode. Crews made entry into the structure and began to attack the fire only to be forced out a few minutes later due to rapidly deteriorating conditions and structural instability. Crews worked defensively for over five hours to extinguish the fire, obtaining water via tanker shuttle and a 55,000 gallon swimming pool that was on the property. Fire crews had to return several times over the next few days to continue to extinguish hot spots and smaller fires in the rubble.
Apparatus operating on scene: Earlysville Fire Engine 41, Tanker 49, and Brush 43; Hollymeade fire Engine 121 and Tanker 121; Seminole Trail Fire Engine 81; Charlottesville Fire Engine 2; and mutual aid assistance from Greene County’s Dyke Fire and Standardsville Fire. Thanks to all who assisted.
